(Pantun)

Pisang emas dibawa belayar, (a) 帶上金蕉去遠航,
masak sebiji di atas peti; (b) 熟了一根箱上擱;
Hutang emas boleh dibayar, (a) 欠人金錢能償還,
Hutang budi dibawa mati. (b)

Ikan belanak hilir berenang, (a) 鲻魚在河裡游弋,
burung dara membuat sarang; (a) 鴿子在樹杈築巢;
Makan tak enak tidur tak senang, (a) 吃不知味睡不甜,
hanya teringat dinda seorang.

Dahulu saying sekarang benci.

Engkau tak hendak, aku tak ingin.

Sudah gaharu cendana pula,
sudah tahu bertanya pula.

Sayang-sayang buah kepayang,
Dimakan mabuk dibuang saying.

Timang tinggi-tinggi,
sampai cucur atap; 舉到屋簷邊;
Belum tumbuh gigi,
dah pandai baca kitab.
Timang tinggi-tinggi,
sampai cucur atap; 舉到屋簷邊;
Emak duduk menyanyi,
ayah membaca kitab.

Cahaya redup menyegar padi,
ayam berkokok mengirai tuah; 雄雞啼鳴報福音;
Jika hidup tidak berbudi,
umpama pokok tidak berbuah.

Ayam berkokok mengirai tuah,
balam berkokok di sini sana; 斑鳩四處亂鳴啼;
Umpama pokok tidak berbuah,
Atau pokok yang tak berguna.

Butterflies sport on the wing around,
They fly to the sea by the reef of rocks.
My heart has felt uneasy in my breast,
From former days to the present hour.

They fly to the sea by the reef of rocks.
The vulture wings its flight to Bandan.
From former days to the present hour,
Many youths have I admired.

The vulture wings its flight to Bandan,
Dropping its feathers at Patani.
Many youths have I admired,
But none to compare with my present choice.

His feathers he let fall at Patani.
A score of young pigeons.
No youth can compare with my present choice,
Skilled as he is to touch the heart.

(1) Kupu-kupu terbang melintang
Terbang di laut di hujung karang
(2) Hati di dalam menaruh bimbang
Dari dahulu sampai sekarang

(3) Terbang di laut di hujung karang
Burung nasur (nasar) terbang ke Bandan
(4) Dari dahulu sampai sekarang
Banyak muda sudah kupandang

(5) Burung nasur (nasar) terbang ke Bandan
Bulunya lagi jatuh ke Patani
(6) Banyak muda sudah kupandang
Tiada sama mudaku ini

(7) Bulunya jatuh ke Patani
Dua puluh anak merpati
(8) Tiada sama mudaku ini
Sungguh pandai membujuk hati

— Charles Baudelaire,

小提琴幽咽如一顆受創的心;

Harmonie du soir
— Charles Baudelaire

Chaque fleur s'évapore ainsi qu'un encensoir;
Les sons et les parfums tournent dans l'air du soir;
Valse mélancolique et langoureux vertige!

Chaque fleur s'évapore ainsi qu'un encensoir;
Le violon frémit comme un coeur qu'on afflige;

Le ciel est triste et beau comme un grand reposoir;

Evening Harmony
— Charles Baudelaire, translated by Geoffrey Wagner

Now is the time when trembling on its stem
Each flower fades away like incense;
Sounds and scents turn in the evening air;
A melancholy waltz, a soft and giddy dizziness!

Each flower fades away like incense;
The violin thrills like a tortured heart;
A melancholy waltz, a soft and giddy dizziness!
The sky is sad and beautiful like some great resting-place.

The violin thrills like a tortured heart,
A tender heart, hating the wide black void.
The sky is sad and beautiful like some great resting-place;
The sun drowns itself in its own clotting blood.

A tender heart, boring the wide black void,
Gathers all trace from the pellucid past.
The sun drowns itself in clotting blood.
Like the Host shines O your memory in me!

— Geoffrey Wagner, Selected Poems of Charles Baudelaire (NY: Grove Press, 1974)

Pantoum
—John Ashbery

Eyes shining without mystery,
Footprints eager for the past
Through the vague snow of many clay pipes,
And what is in store?

Footprints eager for the past
The usual obtuse blanket.
And what is in store
For those dearest to the king?

The usual obtuse blanket.
Of legless regrets and amplifications
For those dearest to the king.
Yes, sirs, connoisseurs of oblivion,

Of legless regrets and amplifications,
That is why a watchdog is shy.
Yes, sirs, connoisseurs of oblivion,
These days are short, brittle; there is only one night.

That is why a watchdog is shy,
Why the court, trapped in a silver storm, is dying.
These days are short, brittle; there is only one night
And that soon gotten over.

Why the court, trapped in a silver storm, is dying
Some blunt pretense to safety we have
And that soon gotten over
For they must have motion.

Some blunt pretense to safety we have
Eyes shining without mystery,
For they must have motion
Through the vague snow of many clay pipes.
