這趟旅程會很遠嗎？
只不過稍踱幾步！——倘若能走遠點！
復又如何？
在一片落葉上問自己，
也隨著柔和的曲調化為旋律！

有什麼能留下來變成紀念？
望著那一直埋著頭的牝馬
或幽微的風、黯淡的星！

這路途還有多遠？
可能一世紀…啊！只不過一眨眼！
旅程所為何事？
欲問啞口無言的祖厝！
我的血統到那時已僵固！

有人撥弦嗎？
有東西掉了嗎？
啊！自己回答吧！——我是永遠的過路客……

Adakah djauh perdjalanan ini?
Tjuma selenggang!—Tjoba kalau bias lebih!
Lantas bagaimana?
Pada daun gugur tanja sendiri,
Dan sama lagu melembut djadi melodi!

Apa tinggal djadi tanda mata?
Lihat pada betina tidak lagi menengadah
Atau baju saju, bintang menghilang!

Lagi djalan ini berapa lama?
Boleh seabad…aduh sekerdip sadja!
Perdjalanan karma apa?
Tanja rumah asal jang bisu!
Keturunanku jang beku disitu!

Ada jang menggamit?
Ada jang kehilangan?
Ah! Djawab sendiri!—Aku terus gelandangan……

Is this much of a journey?
Only a step!—Maybe you can go further!
But how?
Ask the fallen leaves for yourself,
Ask the quiet chant that becomes a song!

What stays behind to be remembered?
Look at those hens with their eyes lowered,
Or sad-faced slaves, or falling stars!

How long a journey?
Maybe a century......no, no, just a wink of the eye!
But why this journey?
Ask the house, that was born dumb!
Ask my children’s children, freezing in there!

Is something reaching out?
Is something letting go?
Ah, find your own answers!—I'm just killing time……
